Two ANA Commanders Killed in Clashes with Taliban in Helmand

KABUL (MEP) – Casualties were feared on Afghan security forces after crossfires with the Taliban in Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand province.

Armed Taliban fighters Friday night attacked a security checkpoints in Jahanzib area of Nahr-e-Saraj district, and clashed with ANA forces.

Omar Zwak, a spokesman for the Helmand governor, said two ANA commanders were killed and three others were wounded in the attack.

He said that “a commander of the 205th Maiwand Corps, Maj. Gen. Mohammad Zahir, and 3rd Border Guards Commander Lumeri Breidman, Mohammad Jan Khaplwak were killed in the attack.”

Zwak said the Taliban had also suffered casualties, mentioning no exact numbers.

The armed Taliban have not yet commented.
