Turkish Cargo Plane Crashes In Kyrgyzstan Killing 32

MEP: At least 32 people, six of them children, have been killed after a Turkish Airlines cargo plane has crashed in Kyrgyzstan, according to the local Health Ministry.

The Boeing 747 crashed near the Manas airport in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, at around 7:30 am local time (0130 GMT) as it was attempting to land in poor visibility because of dense fog on Monday.

Government spokeswoman Tolgonai Stamaliyeva said the plane — which was en route from Hong Kong to Istanbul — was going to land at Manas airport to refuel and crashed in a populated area, damaging some 15 houses.

Rescue workers have recovered the body of a pilot and 15 villagers, the healthcare ministry said.

Images on social media purporting to be of the crash site show fire and smoke rising from the rubble of destroyed buildings.
