So far, Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Party and Donald Trump in the Republican Party, are ahead of their competitors.

US voters casted their ballots across 11 states in a day-long contest known as Super Tuesday, when the greatest number of states hold primary elections to pick the Republican and Democratic White House nominees on the biggest single day ahead of the 8 November presidential election.

Trump swamped his rivals by piling up seven wins across the nation, demonstrating broad appeal for his anti-establishment movement. Clinton also had a strong night, winning seven states and showing her strength with minorities in the South.

Super Tuesday states won so far:

Donald Trump (Republican): Alabama, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Virginia, Arkansas, Vermont

Ted Cruz (Republican): Texas, Oklahoma

Marco Rubio (Republican): Minnesota

Hillary Clinton (Democrat): Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Arkansas, Texas, Massachusetts

Bernie Sanders (Democrat): Vermont, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Colorado

Ted Cruz, a conservative senator, won his home state of Texas and Oklahoma as he sought to emerge as Trump’s main rival.

Cruz desperately needed the Texas win in order to stay in the race, and was likely to keep campaigning as the only Republican who has been able to defeat Trump in any primary contest.
