Tropical Storm Earl Kills 40 People In Mexico

MEXICO-Storms-072473_989MEP: At least 40 people have been killed by landslides triggered by the remnants of Tropical Storm Earl in the Mexican states of Puebla and Veracruz, according to the officials.

As many as 30 people died after saturated hillsides collapsed onto their homes in the town of Huauchinango in central Puebla State. Officials said a whole hill collapsed near the town and swept down on a nearby village.

The other 10 died in similar circumstances in the eastern state of Veracruz.

Gov. Rafael Moreno Valle visited the areas affected by storm on Saturday, and has posted photos on his official Twitter account of some of the damage caused by the storm.

“My government will have all resources available. We will not rest until all the damages caused have been repaired,” Moreno tweeted.

According to Federal transportation authorities, the region had received a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours.
