Trilateral Agreement On Afghan Refugees In Pakistan

Afghan refugees meeting in IslamabadMEP: Parties at the twenty-seventh trilateral summit of Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Pakistan reached an agreement about Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

The summit was held on Tuesday and its final score results determined on Wednesday.

Seyyed Hossein Alemi Balkhi, Minister of Refugees and Repatriation in the presence of Ms. Maya on behalf of UHNCR office in Kabul, Qadir Baloch, Secretary of Pakistani government and Enderica Ratwani, on behalf of the Office UHNCR spoke during the meeting in Islamabad.

Balkhi urged Pakistan to consider all necessary issues for new strategy migrants for their voluntary departure.

At the end of the meeting, all three sides stressed their commitment in relation to the strategy on solution as a regional framework for identifying and implementing solutions for one and a half million Afghan refugees registered in Pakistan and voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees in safe conditions with dignity and necessary effort to create the right atmosphere for the purpose of sustainable reintegration, including improving access to services, increase livelihood opportunities and reforming the distribution of land.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan and UNHCR asked Pakistan to extend long-term immigrants cards to support the voluntary returnees and focus to behave peacefully with the Afghan refugees.

On the other hand, the UNHCR decided to increase the cash for voluntary returnees from Pakistan from $200 to $400.

The parties also emphasized to see the matter of refugee as a humanitarian issue and not be influenced by political and security issues.

The report comes as Islamabad has recently confirmed the departure of illegal Afghan immigrants in the country and has already dismissed a large number of refugees from its soil.
