Tons of drugs and alcohol destroyed in Kabul

Above 20 tons of drugs were set on fire by the ministry of interior affairs of Afghanistan in capital Kabul on Tuesday.

Deputy interior minister for counter-narcotic program, Baz Mohammad Ahmadi said Kabul city has turned into main transit hub for illicit drugs trafficking in Afghanistan.

Mr. Ahmadi further added the drugs and narcotics which were set on fire were discovered and seized during the past ten months in various operations from Kabul province.

He said illicit drugs trafficking and smuggle boosts terrorism and Mafia groups in the country.

According to Baz Mohammad Ahmadi over 600 people have been arrested during the counter-narcotics operations in Kabul city in the past ten months, khaama press reported.

Interior ministry officials said the drugs which were torched in Kabul city on Tuesday, included heroin, opium, hashish, morphine, chemicals and alcohols.

Baz Mohammad Ahmadi also informed that a major operation will be launched against the smugglers in Kabul province in the coming days to reduce drugs trafficking in Kabul province.

Deputy counter-narcotics minister, Mohammad Ibrahim Azhar said the latest report by UNODC reveals an increase in opium cultivation and drugs production in Afghanistan during the current year.
