Three Policemen, One Civilian Killed In Almaty Gunfire

Almaty shootingMEP: A group of three gunmen have reportedly opened fire in a police station killing three policemen and a member of the public in Kazakhstan’s commercial capital, Almaty, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

At least 10 shots were fired, local media outlet 365info.kz reported, citing witnesses.

“We saw a man with a rifle, he passed by,” one shop worker said by phone.

One attacker, 27, has been arrested but an accomplice is still at large, the statement added.

The government has raised the terror threat level but not said who was behind the attack.

Police cordoned off several central streets, including the one near a local office of the KNB security police, where shots were also heard.

Investigations are underway to capture the rest of the attackers.
