Thousands Protest In London Against Netanyahu

rally in LondonKABUL: (Middle East Press) Thousands of people took to the streets outside ‘Downing Street’ to protest against the visit of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister in London after he arrived on Wednesday to meet with his British counterpart David Cameron.

Before boarding the plane to London from Israel, Netanyahu said he would warn Europe against pressuring Israel as the country represents a bulwark against radical Islamism in the Middle East.

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) and various groups including War on Want, Palestine Forum in Britain, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Stop the War, and British Muslim Initiative have organized the demonstration.

The protesters are calling on the Prime Minister David Cameron to impose sanctions on Israel as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrives in the UK.

Netanyahu will spend two days in Britain to discuss a range of issues including stalled so-called peace talks and the labeling of products made in Jewish settlements. He will begin his official meetings on Thursday.

The Israeli embassy in the U.K. said in a separate press release that Netanyahu and Cameron would also “discuss diplomatic, strategic and bilateral issues, as well as joint challenges in the fields of security, economics and cyber.”

The protesters also chanted “Arrest Netanyahu” and “war criminal” with some of them holding up posters calling for an end to the blockade on Gaza.

Over 108-thousand Britons have signed a petition demanding Netanyahu be arrested for war crimes when he arrives in London.

They want Netanyahu to be brought to justice for crimes committed during Israel’s deadly war on the Gaza Strip.

Last year, Tel Aviv launched a 50-day war on the besieged coastal territory killing over 2,100 Palestinians and injuring over thousands as well as leaving hundreds of houses destroyed.
