Thousands Displaced, 14 Dead In SW China’s Heavy Tornados
MEP: Heavy rains and floods have forced thousands of Chinese people in southwest of the country to leave their homes with at least three others missing.
China.org.cn reported that a leisure boat capsized in Sichuan Province leaving 14 people dead on Saturday.
Rainstorms hit eight counties or cities in the province, forcing nearly 4,000 residents to temporarily relocate, said a written statement issued by the civil affairs department of the province.
State run Xinhua news agency reported that rescue operations are underway.
Among the three people missing is one village official who was washed away by flood waters while trying to rescue two fellow villagers trapped in their houses.
