Taliban Seize Over 60 Villages In Badakhshan

AFGHANISTAN-UNREST-TALIBAN-FILESKABUL: (Middle East Press) Taliban militants have reportedly taken control of over 60 villages in Raghistan district of Badakhshan province, local officials said Thursday.

Rustam Khan Raghi, district Governor confirming the report, said the militants seized the villages over the past two days.

Raghi added that 25 additional soldiers have been sent in to the district but no air support has been provided.

According to Raghi, the Taliban has advanced close to the Raghistan Bazar but clashes between security forces and the Taliban have apparently stopped.

Reports show, Badakhshan is among the relatively volatile provinces in northeastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in its various districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
