Taliban Insurgents Kill 5 Passengers On Kunduz Highway, Take 40 Hostage

MEP: Taliban insurgents stopped the vehicles of passengers along Kabul-Kunduz highway in Ali-abad district of the province and have taken the passengers with them.

Colonel Abdul Ghias Jan Agha, police chief of Ali-abad district of Kunduz province told the Middle East News Agency the incident took place on Monday night.

He said around 200 passengers heading towards Kunduz in three particular 303 type Bus and three van were stopped on the way by Taliban insurgents where 155 of them were released and 45 others taken hostage.

The Taliban insurgents have brutally killed 5 of the 45 passengers and left their bodies along the way, according to Jan Agha.

The remaining 40 others were transferred to an unknown location, the district police chief noted.

So far it is unclear whether those killed were the government officials or ordinary people.

The Afghan National Army deployed to the area and efforts are underway to rescue the hostages.
