Taliban Denies Assassination of Jihadi Commander in Maidan Wardak

KABUL (MEP) – The Taliban has denied allegations that claim the members of the group have killed a jihadi commander in Maidan Wardak province.

Local officials in Maidan Wardak earlier claimed that four members of a family, including a jihadi commander affiliated with the Islamic Party, were killed by the Taliban on Friday.

The incident took place in the Wardak`s Chek district, in which a jihadi commander affiliated with Hezb-e-Islami, Mohammad Sharif, was killed.

But the Taliban have denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating “family members were killed near a security checkpoint.”

Violence has escalated since the end of the Eid al-Fitr, and the Taliban have launched offensive in many parts of the country.

Recently the United States has said it has launched two airstrikes on Taliban positions in the country since the Eid ceasefire ended.
