Taliban Denies Any Agreement on Ceasefire in Afghanistan

KABUL (MEP) – A spokesman for the Taliban’s Political Office in Doha, Qatar rejected any agreement on a ceasefire in Afghanistan.

A spokesman for the Taliban’s Political Office in Qatar, Suhail Shaheen, in a post on twitter today Monday, December 30, denied any report over a temporary ceasefire in Afghanistan.

“Some media release the reports which are devoid of the truth,” he said in a tweet. “Of course, if there was anything, we will definitely share with our people and the media.”

Mr. Shaheen urged the media to refrain from broadcasting any unauthorized reports.

The denial of the ceasefire agreement by Taliban spokesman comes while last night, Associated Press quoting leaders of the group had reported that the Taliban negotiating team agreed to a temporary ceasefire in Afghanistan.

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal quoted Taliban sources as saying that the group’s ruling council had been discussing a week-long ceasefire to pave the way for US troops withdrawal from Afghanistan and the start of intra-Afghan talks.
