n00061148-bKABUL: (Middle East Press) A number of the main leaders of the Taliban groups were arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Emirates News 71 said on Tuesday.

Reports suggest that Abdul Rahman Zahid, the deputy foreign minister of Taliban regime and the Director of Afghanistan bank, was arrested after landing at Dubai International Airport last month.

Reports also suggest that Zahid was not directly involved in the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan but had contacts with the group’s political office in Qatar and some other Taliban commanders in Pakistan.

Zahid along with several other unnamed leaders of the group after their arrest by security forces of the UAE were transferred to an unknown location, according to reports.

UAE government has said that Zahid, who also had international links, might have held meetings without prior permission.

The Emirates News 71 quoted some knowledgeable individuals of the UAE and Pakistan to cooperate in the arrest of Abdul Rahman Zahid.
