KABUL: (MEP) – Local officials said on Saturday that six children were killed and another three injured by an explosion in northern Baghlan province on Friday afternoon, Tolo reported.
The incident took place in Dushe district of the province while the children were playing in the area and an explosive device detonated. The children were from several different families according to said Jawid Basharat, a Spokesman for the Provincial Police Chief.
The families of the victims were informed and the bodies of the deceased taken to a nearby hospital. Also another three children injured during the blasting.
The police have started investigating the incident. As of now, no group has yet claimed responsibility.
Insurgents have become increasingly active in Baghlan, often using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) idly placed on roadways and footpaths to target Afghan and NATO troops. However, the indiscriminate nature of the devices and their placement often results in civilian deaths.
