Security Forces Raid Taliban Jail, Release 16 Hostages
KABUL: (MEP) Afghan security forces have released 16 civilians following an attack in a Taliban prison in Nahr-e-Siraj district of southern Helmand province.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said on Monday that the security units also killed at least six suicide bombers along with 17 other Taliban members during the clashes Sunday night.
The prison is reportedly belong to Mullah Abdul Bari Zakir in Shoraki area, the ministry added.
The ministry did not disclose details of the 16 hostages that were successfully freed.
The anti-government armed militant group are yet to leave comment regarding the report.
Helmand is considered one of the most insecure provinces in the country where Taliban insurgents are frequently active in key districts of the province and mostly attempt to carry suicide bombings against security forces that usually end up in civilian’s casualty.
