Security Forces Push Forward in Kunduz; Taliban Rejects

KABUL (MEP) — After a major Taliban attack on the Kunduz city, police forces and ANA commandos have been deployed to the area to repel the Taliban attack.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) released a newsletter saying, National Police Forces and ANA commandos were deployed to Kunduz city today Saturday, August 31, carrying out offensive operation on Taliban fighters.

26 Taliban militants were killed after airstrikes on Kale-Gaw, Zakhil, Pule-Shinwari, and Qahwa_Khana areas, MoI newsletter added.

Eight armed Taliban fighters were also killed in other areas and some weapons were seized by security forces.

On the one hand, it is said that Special Forces of 333 Police Corps have begun clearing operations in various parts of Kunduz.

The Taliban use civilians and residential homes as shields, the Interior Ministry says.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed denied the reports, saying their attack was ongoing and that a number of security forces had surrendered to Taliban.

However, electricity and telecommunications services in parts of the city of Kunduz are still inactive.
