Saudi Arabia’s Strategic Debacle

According to this report, Saudi Arabia spent billions of dollars to curb the growing influence of Iran and Shiite thought in the world by building mosques and cultural centers to export its Wahhabi ideology and spread it in Muslim countries and Europe. It also bribed Arab and non-Arab countries (such as Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, etc.) to undermine Shitte. Saudi charities also fund Wahhabi schools (madrassas) and mosques. But key goal of Saudi foreign policy to undermine and stop the spread of Shitte Islam faced certain defeat.

Saudis have applied all means (power, money and conspiracy) against Iran but their unwise actions and Saudi Arabia’s hostility toward Iran has caused that moderate Sunnis become uncontrollable takfirists (extremist Sunnis).

The victory of Hezbollah and Hamas supported by Iran against Israel was the beginning of Saudi’s defeat among Sunnis.

Rafic Hariri in Lebanon, Erdogan in Turkey, Ayad Allawi in Iraq, Hamad bin Khalifa in Qatar, King Abdullah in Saudi tried for “separation of Syria from Iran” but their efforts have failed. Instead, Hariri in Beirut and Allawi in Iraq were removed from the political scene. Also their plan to overthrow the Shiite government of Iraq and Bashar al-Assad in Syria has not been successful until now.

Americans have raised serious doubts about Saudi Arabia’s influential role in regional politics.

Failure of Saudi-led alliance against Yemen further aggravated Saudi Arabia’s fundamental weakness.
