Samangan’s governor escapes unhurt in an explosion

KABUL: (MEP) – Provincial governor for northern Samangan province of Afghanistan escaped unhurt in an explosion which took place early Saturday morning, Khaama reported.

According to local security officials, the incident took place around 7:30am local time while Khairullah Anoosh was on his way towards his office.

The explosion took place in Karte Solh area at Aibak city after an improvised explosive device planted on a roadside went off while the vehicle of Khairullah Anoosh was crossing the area.

Mosadiq Muzaffari, provincial security chief for Samangan confirming the report said Khairullah Anoosh and his companions escaped the explosion unhurt.

An Afghan kid has reportedly been injured following the explosion. No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Samangan is among the relatively peaceful provinces in northern Afghanistan; however militants have recently increased their insurgency activities in a number of its districts.

Taliban militants frequently use improvised explosive device as the weapon of their choice to target Afghan and coalition security forces and Afghan government officials.
