Russian Envoy: Afghan Government Must Not Purchase Russian Arms By Western Aid Funds

502434KABUL: (MEP) Western donors’ officials have urged the Afghan government, not to purchase Russian arms and weapons with the ‘assisted money’ of them for its security forces.

Zamir Kabulov, the Russian Special Representative for Afghanistan, yesterday has raised the issue in an interview with Tass news agency.

“The Afghan government is interested in cooperation with Russia in the field of technical and military, but Western countries try to prevent this” Kabulov said.

He adds this is the biggest obstacle to impose sanctions by donor countries to Afghanistan.

The outstanding representative of Russian President says, no budget allocated in the Afghan government budget for the purchase of military weapons and ammunition.

This comes as earlier the Russian government provided more than ten thousands of Kalashnikovs to Afghan security forces.

Russia’s envoy in Afghanistan, said that before imposing sanctions on Russia, Moscow based on a contract with the U.S. Defense Department in 2012 and 2014 to transport Afghan army, had delivered 63 helicopters.
