Russia Invites Iran to Participate in Afghanistan Peace Talks

KABUL (MEP) – Russia has expressed interest in having Tehran in a meeting that is set to be held between Russia, China and US on Afghan peace issues.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Russia 24 TV that he is interested in Iran’s participation in the Afghan peace talks.

He said Russia’s talks with the US on Afghanistan were continuing and that a board of Russia, China and the United States was being formed, to which Pakistan would join.

The Russian Foreign Minister has expressed interest in having Iran on board and involved in Afghan peace issues.

Earlier, Moscow had hosted meetings between Afghan leaders and Taliban delegates as well as another peace talks attended by representatives of Russia, the United States, China and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Taliban’s political bureau in Qatar traveled to Russia, China and Iran after their talks with Zalmay Khalilzad were called off.
