Karim Youresh, a spokesman for Faryab police chief said the incident took place last night in the central of Khwaja Sabz Posh district when Colonel Sakhi Dad Osmani was heading to help the involved security forces with the armed Taliban at checkpoints.
“Armed Taliban launched attack on a number of security checkpoints at around 10:00 PM last night in the district and when Osmani was moving to help, a roadside bomb hit him and his driver were killed as a result” he added.
The source noted that three armed Taliban were killed, two others wounded and their bodies remained on the battlefield.
According to Faryab police chief spokesman, the Taliban offensive attack after the arrival of reinforcements pushed back in the Khwaja Sabz Posh district and the situation is currently normal.
The armed Taliban have not commented on the report so far.
