MEP: Professor of political science at the American University in Egypt said, “Saudi delegation’s visit to Ethiopia showed that Saudi-Egypt relations have reached a dead end.”

“The trip of senior delegation from Saudi Arabia to “Addis Ababa”, Ethiopia’s capital, showed that Saudi-Egypt ties have reached a dead end,” Tariq Fahimi, the professor of political science at the American University in Egypt and expert in regional affairs in Cairo, said.

Egyptian political analyst described sending a Saudi delegation to Ethiopia as a revenge on Egyptians and said: “it is not proper that Saudi government have such actions toward Egypt and violate diplomatic principles because of different stands over the crisis in Syria.”

“Saudi Arabia is trying to get closer to Ethiopia for the Nile issue which affects all Egyptians. It shows that Saudi officials do not understand international and regional issues,” Fahimi added.

He emphasized that misunderstanding of the terms and conditions of regional and international equations and balances has been increased after “Salman bin Abdul Aziz” came to power in Saudi Arabia, and added: “this topic influenced Saudi foreign policy so obvious and undeniable.”

“The Ethiopian government doesn’t care that the country is facing a severe budget deficit. The government is fascinated by financial pledges of Saudi Arabia for Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam project.  This trip showed that Addis Ababa will also benefit from other support such as political support,” Fahimi added.
