Railway Project From Russia To Afghanistan Pending

Afghanistan-RailwayMEP: Plans to build a railway from Russia to Afghanistan since the Soviet Union was on hand, but has not been implemented due to hitches, the plan is now being reviewed again.

The proposal remains one of the vain and long desires in terms of roads and across borders, is still on the agenda, but its high cost has been one of the main obstacles to the execution.

New Russia and the former Soviet Union since years seeking to expand trade access and transportation to different parts of the world, particularly in Asia and the Middle East through sea and land routes that to reach the warm waters of the Persian Gulf and several rail route to Afghanistan is the most important of these projects.

Russian news agencies reported Saturday about taking new review process of the implementation of railway track on Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

The report said that the railway will be profitable, but some experts believe that the cost of the project may impeded participation of investors.

Tajik officials also assess the new railway project with great caution. It is said that the first four countries’ specific recommendations designed path and potential investors will be evaluated after which the project will be discussed.

According to preliminary calculations, the implementation of the project due to mountainous areas will cost between 10 to 11 billion dollars.
