President Ghani In Uzbekistan For SCO Summit

President GhaniMEP: President Ashraf Ghani a head of a high-level delegation on Thursday afternoon left Kabul for Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan to participate the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

The president is also expected to meet with his Uzbek counterpart Islom Karimov and other leaders of the member countries of the organization including Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan on the sidelines of the summit, a statement by Ghani’s office said.

The statement added that Mr Ghani during his visit was accompanied by Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, the national security adviser, Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai General director of National Security, Mohammad Shaker Kargar Advisor to President in the Central Asian Affairs, Omar Zakhilwal ambassador and wonderful representative of Afghanistan to Pakistan, Abdul Salam Rahimi General director of presidential office and Muhammad Harun Chakhansur a spokesman for the president.

The summit of six nations is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in the area of security.

This comes as the officials of Afghanistan and Pakistan are to meet on the sidelines of the summit and discuss on the creation of an effective mechanism to resolve border tensions between the two countries.
