MEP: As a result of mine explosion, the police chief of Sholgara district of Balkh province was killed and two of his bodyguards wounded.
Sher Jan Durani, spokesman for Balkh police chief told the Middle East News Agency the incident occurred Wednesday morning in Sholgara district and the city of Mazar-e-Sharif route.
Durani said Bismillah Khan, police chief of Sholgara district was killed after a mine [placed in his vehicle] detonated in which two of his bodyguards were critically wounded and his car was fully damaged.
Durani linked the attack to Taliban insurgents and said the wounded have been moved to Mazar-e-Sharif.
The Taliban insurgents meanwhile claimed responsibility for the blast.
