Police, Army Forces Suffer Casualties in Balkh and Takhar

The Taliban attacked security posts in Balkh and Takhar provinces, resulting in casualties feared on both sides.

Armed Taliban attacked police posts at Balkh-Sheberghan highway and Darqad district of Takhar province as the group continues its attacks in northern Afghanistan.

Eight policemen were killed and three others were wounded in a Taliban attack on a police checkpoint on the Balkh-Sheberghan highway, said Balkh police spokeswoman Ajmal Fayez.

The Taliban also suffered casualties, but its exact number is unknown, Fayez said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a news release that two Taliban fighters were killed and one Afghan National Army soldier and one police officer were wounded in a Taliban attack on a security post in the Qara-Daka area in Darqad district, Takhar.

The armed Taliban claimed responsibility for both attacks and said several security forces had been killed and wounded.

On the other hand, MoD says five Taliban fighters were killed and two others wounded in the airstrikes on armed Taliban gathering in Dasht Qala district of Takhar province.
