Passenger Bus Falls into Gorge, Killing 23 in Kashmir

KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 23 people have been killed and 25 others injured after a passenger bus turned off a rocky village road and fell into a deep gorge in Himalayan region of Kashmir, police said.

Police inspector general Danish Rana said the driver apparently lost control of the bus while negotiating a curve.

Rana added that police officials had reached the area and were evacuating the injured.

The 48-seat public bus was traveling to the town of Uthampur when the accident happened near the village of Marotthi, more than 200 kilometers south of India-held Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar.

Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, but claimed by both in its entirety.
