Over 85 Taliban Detained In Faryab’s Gen. Dostum Operations
MEP: Local officials in Faryab province say a total of 85 armed Taliban have been arrested during clearance operations in Dawlat Abad district of the province.
Faryab police chief Sayyed Andarabi speaking to Middle East News Agency said in past 24 hours during a military offensive led by the First Deputy of the country, 85 armed Taliban including Maulvi Mohammad Mir, Taliban shadow governor in Qaisar district and 50 other members of the group were killed.
Security forces also managed to clear Shashpar and Sheikh-ha areas of Dawlat Abad district where the armed Taliban were previously active and more than a dozen villages have come under government control, Andarabi added.
Meanwhile, the press office of first vice president announced that Rahim Daad, Taliban commander along with his 65 men under his command in the area of Khowaja Qeshri of Khowaja Sabzposh district have been surrendered.
The area of Aastana Baba which is an important area with 50 villages have also been cleared of armed Taliban.
First Deputy, Abdul Rashid Dostum has assured that northern part of the country will never be a safe haven for Taliban since its people are oppose with murdering and extremism.
The development comes as Mullah Tahir, armed Taliban commander was surrendered to Afghan security forces earlier this week with 115 other individuals in Dasht-e Leili district and pledged to stop fighting.
It is said that search operations led by General Dostum is going on in Faryab province.
