Many of people have relocated to relief camps in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, according to local officials.
Bihar was hit especially hard; nearly 120 people were dead in that state alone, and another 5 million were impacted by the flooding, according to NBC News.
Those impacts ranged from displacements and evacuations to destroyed crops, the report added. In total, 24 of Bihar’s 38 districts have been hit by flooding.
Floods occur in many parts of India during the monsoon season, which runs from June through September.
Schools were shut in Uttar Pradesh, where 43 people were killed as both the water levels in Ganges and Yamuna rivers continue to rise.
