RTR4UPPL-1024x664KABUL: (MEP) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Friday held a video conference with his U.S. counterpart President Barack Obama in which Obama hailed the Afghan defense forces for performing well and being courageous in fight against terrorism.

“Obama told Ghani that he is impressed by Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) performance and courage to fight terrorism,” the statement by Presidential Palace (ARG) said.

The video conference was also attended by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

The remarks by US President came as direct peace talks were expected to be held by the first week of March in Islamabad with discussion of Afghanistan, the United States, Pakistan and China’s representatives last month.

Obama noted Ghani’s role in “working with Afghanistan’s neighbors to deepen regional cooperation and advance the reconciliation process with the Taliban,” the White House said in a statement.

He also “underscored US support for a peace process that reduces violence and ensures lasting stability in Afghanistan and the region,” the White House added.

Meanwhile, President Obama pledged to continue advocating for Afghanistan ahead of Brussels and Warsaw summits.

On his part, Ghani thanked the U.S. leadership for supporting the Afghan Air Force, as well as admitting ‘the yet lack of air support’ in Afghanistan.
