Numerous Reports Revealed Turkey’s Covert Support for Terrorist Groups in Syria

KABUL: (Middle East Press) Cumhuriyet Turkish newspaper disclosed some pictures and videos of trucks belonging to Turkey’s intelligence agency that were stopped by gendarmerie forces in January 2014.

Those trucks contained arms and ammunition to terrorist groups in Syria instead of transporting humanitarian assistance to Syria.

Turkish authorities considered sending weapons to Syria as state secrets so have accused Cumhuriyet Newspaper of spying for the disclosure of national secrets and threatened them.

Erdoğan with a threatening tone said they should be held accountable for their actions and accused them of spying.

Turkey’s president after the threatening Cumhuriyet newspaper criticized New York Newspaper as well. This newspaper recently published an article claiming that the Turkey’s sky is surrounding by dark clouds, Erdoğan said.

He attributed his government to the Ottoman Empire and said: “New York newspaper used to write with heavy grudges and hatred against the Ottoman Empire in the Ottoman period, today it acts the same towards the Republic of Turkey and I, who represents this country.”

Experts believe Erdogan’s criticism on New York newspaper showing he wants to deceive public opinion and won votes in coming elections.

After the Turkish president’s threat against Cumhuriyet, well known figures didn’t remain silent and defended Turkish newspaper.

Metin Feyzioğlu, head of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, in response to recent events said: This is the duty of the press to expose such crimes and to inform the public.

Omar Farouk Amin Ağaoğlu, former head of the Turkish Union of Judges also stressed that if the Turkish government took such steps should explain it within the framework of international norms and standards.
