NUG To Construct ‘Safe House’ For Reporters In Kabul

MEP: The National Unity Government (NUG) has decided to build a safe house for the safety of provincial reporters in Kabul and to resume the cases of violence against journalists.

Nader Naderi, Senior Advisor to the President for Public Affairs, announced the establishment of safe houses at immunity committee meeting today.

Naderi said the safe house will be put at the disposal of journalist’s rights organizations next week so the journalists who come from provinces to Kabul, be logged in in this place.

He added that the purpose of the safe house, is the availability of safe and secure place for journalists to refrain from traveling to hotels.

Meanwhile, Naderi referred to violence against journalists and said that based on the constant pursuit, its scheduled to re-open cases of violence against journalists, and the perpetrators will be brought for punishment.

The Senior Advisor to the President stated that acts of violence against journalists are two types of violence, organized violence and individual violence, which the government is concerned about the organized violence and seeks to provide the safety for journalists.

According to the source, 678 cases of violence against journalists in the past year, 60 cases of murder, 48 arrests, 24 cases of abduction and 200 cases of insults and verbal abuse has been documented that the government will address them again.

Naderi noted that to achieve the goal, the society and media will still be victims, but the government is trying to make sure that these sacrifices are not due to negligence.

Meanwhile, a number of media authorities of the country expressed concern on lack of access to information and the safety of journalists in the country, especially in the restive provinces and urged the government to address these problems.
