The incident on Tuesday morning took place when a Dutch passenger train derailed after hitting a crane on a crossing.
Photos published on Dutch news websites show four of the train’s carriages lying on their side after the collision.
Rene Vegter, a spokesman for Prorail, the company that manages Dutch railways, told Associated Press the crash happened around 9 a.m.
Many passengers have been rescued from the train, media reports say, adding that they are currently being treated by emergency services.
