Mohaqiq and Eng. Mohammad Khan titled Dr. Abdullah’s vice-president

KABUL: (MEP) – The Islamic party of Afghanistan — Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) on Monday announced that they have reached to agreement regarding appointment of HIA deputy leader as the first vice-president and Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq as the second-vice president, if Dr. Abdullah Abdullah wins the upcoming presidential election.

Hezb-e-Islami deputy leader Eng. Mohammad Khan said the agreement was signed after days of discussions on Monday evening, and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah will formally apply to Afghanistan independent election commission for registeration process, Khaama reported.

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah is the leader of the national coalition of Afghanistan, and was one of the main opponents of President Hamid Karzai during 2009 presidential elections.

He is also one of the main members of the electoral alliance which was formed last month, however, it is yet not clears if his nomination will come from the electoral alliance or he will run for the elections independently.

The other potential candidates for 2014 presidential elections include Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai who resigned from the secuity transitioon commission of Afghanistan in a bid to nominate and run for the elections.

Karzai’s elder brother Qayum Karzai, foreign minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, Adbul Rab Rassoul Sayaf and Ali Ahmad Jalali are the other potential candidates who are expected to run for the presidential run-off.

Only one candidate has registered for the presidential elections after the registration process started two weeks back by independent election commission of Afghanistan.
