Mohammad Yousef Kargar Afghan National Football Team Coach Stabbed in Kabul

KABUL: (Middle East Press) Afghan national football coach, Mohammad Yousef Kargar has been stabbed and injured by unknown attackers in the capital city of Kabul, authorities say.

Mohammad Yousef Kargar was attacked next to his house while returning from a wedding ceremony late Saturday, police official, Rohullah Khan, said on Sunday.

Kargar sustained a knife wound to his back and a head injury.

“The attackers stabbed Kargar in the back,” Khan said, adding, “He underwent surgery at a private hospital and is now in stable condition.”

The football manager is noted for leading the Afghan national football team to the 2013 South Asian Football Federation championship.

Kargar also played on Afghanistan’s national team in the 1970s.

The attack marks the latest act of violence against Afghanistan’s sports figures.
