Military Operations Launched Ahead of ‘Nawroz’ Event

Mohammed-Noor-e1452004660953KABUL: (MEP) Professor Atta Mohammad Noor, governor of Balkh province has launched military operations under the name of (Khorshid 21) to provide security ahead of Nawroz celebrations in two districts of Mazar-e-Sharif.

Munir Ahmad Farhad, spokesman for the governor of Balkh province told Middle East Press the operations were launched in Kashanda and Zaari districts.

According to him, the operation has been launched to bolster security in Nawroz celebrations and since last night five militants have been killed and ten others arrested.

Four members of the security forces were also injured in the operations, the source added.

Farhad noted that the militants in order to destabilize the security ahead of Nawroz celebrations, had taken measures therefore, the operations were launched to suppress them.

Nowroz marks the first day of the Persian New Year, an event that has been celebrated for more than 3000 years.

It’s noteworthy that a large number of citizens every year celebrate Nawroz in Mazar-e-Sharif.
