According to source, the incident was not being treated as suspicious or related to terrorism.
Police found the man ablaze near a garden gate outside the palace and pronounced him dead at the scene, a representative for London’s Metropolitan Police said.
There was a strong smell of petrol at the scene, which was cordoned off to tourists.
Officers were called to an area near the locked parks of the palace at 3:06am (0306 GMT) “following reports of a man behaving suspiciously” the police noted.
Kensington Palace however declined to comment on the situation.
The dead man believed to be aged in his forties, according to police statement.
