Kunduz Residents Concern Aimed Deteriorating Situation In The City

Taliban-Afghanistan in KunduzMEP: A number of residents and council members in Kunduz city have expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in the province and accused the government to recklessness in this regard.

Najmuddin, a resident of Kunduz says that with each passing day the spread of insecurity in the province increases and the government does not make the least attention focused on this issue.

“If the security is not considered in this province, the situation will be worse than this” he added.

According to Najmuddin, the armed Taliban are advancing every day in the city, bring the areas under their control, business is totally paralyzed and everyone feels extremely unsafe.

Meanwhile, Amruddin Wali, Kunduz provincial council member also considers the security situation in the province “worrying” and urges the government to fulfill their promises in the implementation of ensuring the security.

Mr Wali says high-ranking government officials during a trip to Kunduz, promised a massive military operation would be conducted to clear the province of the armed Taliban but the promise has not come into practice.

However, Kunduz police chief Mohammad Qasim Jangalbagh says heavy clashes between security forces and the armed Taliban still continue in Qala-e-Zal district.

“No clearance operations have so far launched in the district and neither the security forces are in the Qala-e-Zal district’s building, nor the armed Taliban, the Taliban has spread mines all over the city’s districts” he added.

Concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Kunduz comes as three weeks before the armed Taliban had captured the building of Qala-e-Zal district but security forces have yet failed to retake the district.
