Khanabad District Recaptured By Security Forces

Khanabad district fell into hands of security forcesMEP: Officials say the Afghan security forces have managed to retake full control of Khanabad district of Kunduz province with the establishment of military operations last evening at 7:00 pm.

The operation was reportedly led by Takhar government and security officials.

Mohammad Yasin Zia, Takhar governor said on Sunday the forces attacked the Taliban’s positions of the strength of artillery, squares of Khanabad and its local bazaar.

He says the operations started at 3:00 pm and ended at 10:30 pm and in its wake, including the center of Khanabad, many other areas of the district also fell into the hands of security forces.

Meanwhile Sheraziz Kamawal, commander of Spin Zar zone (808) in the northeast says, 38 armed Taliban were killed and 26 were wounded during the operations.

The security forces are currently engaged in operations in other parts of the province, he added.

The development comes as the armed Taliban had taken full control of the district yesterday morning, but security forces were able to retake the control of the district after 14 hours.
