Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) met with Kerry and his accompanying delegation in his office, a statement by Abdullah’s office said.
The two leaders discussed a number of important issues including the implementation of election reforms, war on corruption and good governance.
Abdullah assured the US official that election reforms will be carried out and said that the NUG is committed to good governance and fighting corruption.
The CEO thanked Kerry from the holding of the Joint Commission meeting between the two countries, bilateral cooperation, United States’ commitment in the field of political, security, political, and support for women, peace and stability, help and assistance to security forces and stressed on strengthening and promoting friendly relations between the two nations as strategic allies.
Meanwhile, the US secretary of state John Kerry also highlighted the importance of bilateral relations between Afghanistan and the United States and acknowledged the Afghan leaders for working for the prosperity of their people.
He praised Ghani and Abdullah for what he called good leadership and said, “the two leaders, despite being rivals in the elections, are united for the sake of the people.”
Kerry said U.S. and Afghan officials needed “to make certain that we use the time between now and the meeting in Warsaw and the meeting in Brussels to make sure that we are putting Afghanistan’s best foot forward”.
