ISIL Kill 26 Kurdish Forces in Iraq

KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 26 Kurdish Peshmerga forces have been killed by Takfiri ISIL militants in a surprise attack on their positions in northern Iraq, security sources say.

The assault took place in the area of Gwer, southwest of Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, early on Saturday.

According to sources, Kurdish soldiers managed to push the militants back after an hour, but they failed to wreak casualties on them.

The attack “was unexpected,” Peshmerga Brigadier General Hajar Ismail noted.

The attack is considered as one of the single deadliest raids on Kurdish forces since Takfiri militants began their campaign of terror in Iraq in June 2014.
