Iran And Australia Agree To Fight Against Terrorism
KABUL: (MEP) Iranian and Australian Foreign Ministers have jointly agreed to cooperate in the fight against terrorism and extremism in the world.
The two senior officials made the remarks during a joint press conference at the Parliament House in Canberra on Tuesday.
“We share the view that Islamic State (IS) is a common enemy, nobody can look at ISIS as a possible leverage. We all need to cooperate together to fight the terror group and extremism,” Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif said, adding, “We have seen instances of that type of extremism creating crimes across the world from Sydney to San Bernardino and everywhere in between.”
For her part, the Australian foreign minister, Julie Bishop congratulated Iran on the upcoming Persian calendar New Year (starting on March 20), the successful parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections and the conclusion of Iran’s nuclear deal with the world powers.
She said that the fight against terrorism is a matter of “common interest” for both countries.
The Iranian foreign minister is in Australia on a two-day visit on the last leg of his six-nation Asia-Pacific tour.
