KABUL: (MEP) – The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has warned no candidate would be allowed to begin campaigning before the timeline set on 2nd February.
The electoral body declared if the election hopefuls found violating electoral law, they would be introduced to judicial institutions.
These statements were expressed after some of the poll contenders were found campaigning in several recent events, Ariana news reported.
The deputy IEC chief, however, warned if the trend continued, the violators of IEC law would be referred to the Attorney General’s Office.
“Once again the candidates are urged to not violate the law or they would be referred to responsible institutions and they would be dealt seriously,” Abdul Rahman Hotaki said.
The IEC has also called on the media, public and private institutions to show their neutrality in the election campaigns.
As announced by the election commission, the elections for Presidential and Provincial Assembly seats are set to be held on April 5, 2014.
