Huge Fire Engulfs UAE Residential Towers

56f9d1fcc461883a5b8b45e4KABUL: (MEP) A huge fire has engulfed in two residential towers in the United Arab Emirates city of Ajman, causing panic among residents.

Social media users posted images and footage of the fire late Monday showing bright yellow flames engulfing a building with chunks of burning debris falling to the ground.

The fire struck one tower in Ajman emirate, north of Dubai, before spreading to an adjacent block.

“My flat is completely gutted,” one resident told reporters, “I have lost everything including my documents and I have no place to stay.”

The police gave no details on casualties in tweets confirming the blaze, but said efforts were ongoing to put out the fire.

The news outlet also reports that traffic on adjacent roads had virtually ground to a halt, as the area has been cordoned off.

“Ambulances and firefighters arrived immediately and took control of the situation, however the fire is massive and might take a while for them to completely put it off,” Ajman Civil Defense director Brigadier Saleh Saeed al-Matroushi said.

The latest fire comes as in December 2015, another massive blaze wreaked a hotel in central Dubai on New Year’s Eve.
