Hezbollah Says Takfiris Killed Commander Badreddine
MEP: The Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, has said its top military commander Mustafa Badreddine was killed as a result of artillery shelling by Takfiri terrorist groups in Syria’s Damascus.
The group also said that Badreddine death will boost the movement’s resolve to fight the extremist militants.
A massive funeral on Friday was held for him in southern Beirut where thousands of people had gathered and vowed for revenge.
Badreddine was believed to have run all Hezbollah’s military operations in Syria since 2011.
“Investigations have showed that the explosion, which targeted one of our bases …, and which led to the martyrdom of … Badreddine, was the result of artillery bombardment carried out by Takfiri groups in the area,” a statement by Hezbollah said on Saturday.
The statement added that Badreddine’s killing will only boost Hezbollah’s “will and intention to continue fighting these criminal gangs.
Hezbollah earlier said it was working to “define the nature of the explosion and its cause, and whether it was the result of an air strike, or missile [attack] or artillery”.
Hezbollah fighters are combating alongside the Syrian government forces against a range of terrorist groups operating in the war-torn Arab country, including Islamic State (IS or Daesh) and the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front.
