Ghani congratulated Hassan Rouhani on his re-election as the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, his office said in a statement.
Ghani, on behalf of Afghan people and government, in a message congratulated the people and government of Iran on Rouhani’s re-election, according to the statement.
The president also congratulated the event on a phone conversation to the Iranian ambassador of Afghanistan, Muhammad-Reza Bahrami, the statement added.
On the phone call, the president hoped that the ties between the two countries, as two close neighbors, develop on the basis of mutual respect and good-neighborliness more than ever.
Hassan Rouhani was elected as the president of Iran for the second term on May 19 winning about 23 million votes (57%).
The turnout was more than 40 million (70%).
