Gas Explosion In Russia’s Yaroslavl Leaves 1 Dead, Many Trapped

MiddleEastPressKABUL: (MEP) A powerful gas explosion in an apartment building in the Russian city of Yaroslavl has killed at least one after it collapsed early Tuesday, local sources said.

The emergencies services rescued four people while many more are feared trapped under the rubble.

“Gas exploded in a five story residential building, the structure caved in from the first to the fifth floor,” an emergencies ministry representative told RIA Novosti.

According to the ministry, up to 39 people were estimated to be buried in the rubble.

Rescue operations still continue in the area.

So far four people have been rescued from the debris, and at least three – including a child – remain trapped. All of those rescued reportedly suffered serious injuries and fractures and were hospitalized in a critical condition, RT reports.

Meanwhile the emergencies ministry is preparing to send two rescue helicopters equipped with medical modules to Yaroslavl to help evacuate those who have been wounded.

Yaroslavl, the administrative center of Yaroslavl Oblast, is located about 250 km northeast of Moscow.
