A security source speaking on condition of anonymity said that the incident took place in Sar Gora area of Lashkargah city, the capital of Helmand province late Sunday night.
He added that the five policemen were first made unconscious and then murdered with a knife in their security post.
According to the source, the weapons belonging to the martyred soldiers were also taken away from the post.
No more details have been issued regarding the incident.
However, an intensive investigation has been initiated to find out the motive behind the killing of the soldiers.
The incident comes as Taliban group has carried out several tricky attacks of this type in the past.
