Female Prisoners Staged Hunger Strike in Parwan Province

KABUL: (Middle East Press) A group of afghan women prisoners have gathered together and staged hunger strike in the prison of Parwan province Saturday afternoon.

KABUL: (Middle East Press) A group of afghan women prisoners have gathered together and staged hunger strike in the prison of Parwan province Saturday afternoon.

Director of the department of women affairs in Parwan province, Nadira Gayah says that the hunger strike have been staged since three days and the number of these inmates is 20.

Gayah added, that a number of these inmates have also sewed their lips and threaten to continue their hunger strike until their demands are not met.

Majority of the women have been in jail for crimes like murder who ask government to reduce their imprisonment period in respect to 8 March, International Women Day, but their request was being ignored.

According to Abdul Wahid, officer of Parwan jail, the crimes of these inmates are severe and therefore have not been awarded a reduction in their imprisonment period.
